Adopt-a-trail
Grand County is home to one of the most extensive trail systems in Colorado. More than 600 miles of mountain biking and hiking trails zigzag through the Fraser Valley. Some are old animal trails, others old logging trails, and others, such as the Fraser-to-Granby trail, were built by volunteers. With the growing popularity of mountain biking, our trails get more wear and tear each year. Not all users know the correct way to use the trails and often ride around mud patches instead of through them. More users mean more people don’t follow proper etiquette; therefore, the trails need more care. The work on our local trails is done almost entirely by volunteers. With the recent budget cuts in the Forest Service, trail work now must rely on volunteers and our local Adopt-A-Trail program. Foot bridges, turnpikes, proper drainage, fixing trail damage and building the new Fraser-to-Granby trail is all done by those who want to give back to our trails.
What can you do? Help us out. Riding our trails is free (and we all hope it stays that way), and our trail guides are free. But by donating $1, you will make a big difference. 100% of your donation will go directly to the trails. Also, know and follow proper trail etiquette. Have fun but avoid damaging trails. Pick up trash. Volunteer for a trail workday. Not only will you be helping out, you will also enjoy it!
